Enhancing Healthcare Procurement: HPA Hosts Bauchi State Validation Workshop

Health Procurement Africa is proud to announce the successful completion of the Bauchi State Procurement Policy, Strategy, and SOPs Consensus Building and Validation Workshop, held from October 21st to 24th, 2024, in Bauchi, Nigeria. This  event underscores our unwavering commitment to promoting efficient, effective, compliant, and sustainable procurement practices within Bauchi State's public health sector.

Our dedicated Nigeria team was represented by Chukwudi Uche, MSc, FCIPS (Chartered), PRINCE2, the Nigeria Program Manager, and Mirabel Okafor, MBA, MSc, CIPSMN, MCIPS, our Procurement Expert. Their expertise and leadership were instrumental in guiding the workshop's objectives and ensuring its success.

The primary aim of the workshop was to review and validate the Bauchi State Drug and Medical Consumables Management Agency's (DMMA) Procurement Policy, Strategy, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This strategic initiative is a testament to our mission of fostering procurement excellence, ensuring that Bauchi State’s public health sector operates with the highest standards of efficiency and compliance.

Collaborative Efforts and Stakeholder Engagement

During the workshop, key stakeholders from various sectors came together to collaborate and align procurement activities with DMMA’s mandate and strategic goals. Participants included representatives from the DMMA, Bauchi State Bureau of Public Procurement, Bauchi State Ministry of Health, and other relevant organizations. Notable attendees included:

  • Pharm Umar Garba Gumau – Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Bauchi State Ministry of Health
  • Nuru Yakubu Umar – Director of Health Planning Research and Statistics, Bauchi State Ministry of Health
  • Aliyu Mohammed Jama’are – Head of Goods & Services, Bauchi State Bureau of Public Procurement
  • Pharm Abdulkadir Ahmed – Managing Director, Bauchi State DMMA
  • And many other dedicated professionals who played a crucial role in the workshop’s success.

Achievements and Outcomes

The workshop was marked by insightful discussions and valuable feedback, leading to the successful validation of the DMMA’s procurement frameworks. By ensuring that these frameworks are well-aligned with Bauchi State’s strategic goals, we empower the DMMA to deliver high-quality, affordable health supplies to the people of Bauchi State. This alignment significantly enhances access to essential healthcare services, contributing to the overall improvement of public health outcomes in the region.

The positive feedback from the Director General of the Bauchi State Bureau of Public Procurement, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Ministry of Health, and the General Manager of the DMMA highlights the significant impact of our efforts in improving the state's health procurement landscape.
